Winning Environment Improvement Project for Yeongheung
Thermal Power, Worth of KRW 250B

On January
12, SAE-A STX ENTECH, which is specialized in EPC contracts under Global SAE-A,
announced that they have won an order to improve environmental facilities for Units
1 and 2 at Yeongheung Thermal Power Plant, which is worth of KRW 235 billion.
Sulfur
oxide and nitrogen oxide are substances inevitably generated from coal power
plants and resulting in fine dusts. They are discharged into the atmosphere in
a purified form through various environmental facilities. Korean government is
promoting various measures against fine dusts in related industries, and one of
the main measures is to expand investment in reinforcing environmental
facilities such as desulfurization, denitrification and indoor coal storage
facilities. After the implementation of the government measures, the emission
of fine dust was decreased 310,000 tons in 2016 to 110,000 tons in 2020, about
by 65%.
STX will
engage in a project to replace/improve old facilities with new high-efficiency
facilities
for raising
efficiencies of SO2 removal, NOX removal and dust collection at
Yeongheung Units 1 and 2, each with a power generation capacity of 800MW, to
98.6%, 94.7%, and 99.9%, respectively. The facilities used in the construction
include a denitration tower, a desulfurization absorption tower, an electric
dust collector, an exhaust gas system, a measurement/control facilities, an
electrical system and ancillary facilities.
STX
successfully completed and is operating environmental facilities for Unit 3 at
Boryeong Thermal Power Plant last year, and won
the grand prize in the environmental facility at the “2020 Green Construction
Industry Awards” jointly hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and
Transport and the Ministry of Environment, showing the best practice for air
environment improvement projects. Winning this order demonstrates that STX is
being recognized for the know-how and technology accumulated over the past 25
years for the environmental facility construction of thermal power plants at
home and abroad.
“With our high-efficiency environmental facilities, we will ensure that
the Yeongheung Thermal Power Plant, which is critical in power supply for the
metropolitan area, emits cleaner exhaust for improving the surrounding
environment,” said Ahn Seok-Hwan, STX’s CEO. “We will do our best to encourage
the government’s measures by actively participating in projects to improve coal
storage facilities and environmental facilities in the future.”
SAE-A STX
ENTECH is a new company established by Global SAE-A by acquiring the plant
business division of STX Heavy Industries in 2018. They are growing into a
global EPC provider, specializing in EPC contracts for petrochemical plants and
environmental facilities, and new city/industrial complex development at home
and abroad. Based on abundant experience in the green facility field, STX has
built anti-pollution facilities for domestic ironworks and power plants such as
Pohang, Gwangyang, Dangjin, and Boryeong, and also has won the bids for a water
treatment facility for crude oil production in the Rumaila, Iraq, one of the
world’s largest oil fields, and a flare system for incineration of harmful
gases in the West Qurna-2.
